East Haven police investigating string of burglaries

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — East Haven police are asking for the public’s help identifying suspects accused of stealing from open garages and vehicles in one area of the city Thursday.

Police said the suspects were seen entering open garages and vehicles, stealing personal property, and fleeing in two vehicles in the area of Ellis and Brazos roads.

Officers were dispatched to the area around noon, after one homeowner in the area reported the suspects entered their garage while they were home.

A male suspect was also reported getting out of a dark-colored SUV and entering an open garage on Ellis Road. The suspect reportedly looked through the homeowner’s black Jeep Grand Cherokee and stole a wallet.

Another neighbor on Brazos Road said the same suspect vehicles stole money and other personal belongings from an unlocked vehicle in their driveway.

The two suspect vehicles seen in the area were a dark-colored Volkswagen Atlas and a gray BMV SUV. The Volkswagen Atlas is believed to be stolen and did not have any license plates at the time of Thursday’s alleged crimes.

Police said surveillance footage captured the BMW SUV with a license plate reading BM20643. The plate was found to be registered to a gray 2008 Honda Accord, which was reported stolen out of New Haven.
