The Guilford Police Department issued a warning on Facebook after an increase in car thefts in the recent weeks.

Guilford police said over the last two weeks, five cars have been stolen all of which have had keys inside.

The suspects have tried to enter dozens of other cars, but they have been locked, according to police.

In a video posted by Guilford police, suspects were seen from multiple angles trying to enter a locked car and then successfully entering an unlocked car, the suspects were gone within minutes.

Police noted that the suspects move on to unlocked cars because it is quick and easy.

“These criminals also stole a car this morning around 6:30 a.m. As people were getting ready for their day. Criminals return to areas where they were successful. We know this because we have had cars stolen and unlocked cars entered from the same residences more than once…. So please… lock your cars everywhere and every time…. No exceptions,” said Guilford police in a Facebook post.

Police also said that the law dictates police cannot chase stolen cars or cars involved in property crimes.
