Norwich man arrested after narcotics-related search and seizure

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was charged after a search and seizure warrant discovered large amounts of fentanyl, a firearm, and cash inside a Norwich residence, say police.

On Friday morning, state police’s Violent Crimes Task Force East Office and the Norwich Police Department’s Detective and Patrol Divisions carried out a narcotic-related search and seizure warrant in the Taftville section of the town.

Anthony VonWinkle, 45, of Norwich, was arrested after the search uncovered 15.4 grams of fentanyl, an illegally possessed semi-automatic handgun, and a large sum of American dollars.

Due to a previous conviction, VonWinkle was not allowed to have firearms. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, as well as criminal possession of a firearm and violation of a protective order.

VonWinkle is held on a $200,000 bond and will be arraigned at the Norwich Superior Court.
