WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — Four people were honored in Windsor Locks Sunday at this year’s firefighters memorial service.

The ceremony was at the Connecticut Fire Academy in front of the state Firefighter’s Memorial which lists the names of firefighters who died in the line of duty.

The four new names inscribed into the memorial this year were Joseph Gross from North Stonington, James Chevalier from Stamford, Anthony DeSimone of North Haven and Louis Peters from Willimantic.

Each year this ceremony recognizes the and thanks these firefighters for their sacrifice.

“Every single day and night, firefighters show up for the job,” said Ronnell Higgins, Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner. “They’re ready to risk their lives and make our community safer. They have, and continue to, answer the call when that bell rings.”

The total number of Connecticut Firefighters known to have died in the line of duty has risen to 357.
