CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Over 900 people in the Oxford and Seymour area have registered with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster relief after getting hit by historic flooding in mid-August.

According to Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn), $2.5 million has already been distributed by FEMA into the bank accounts of residents in need.

One homeowner, James Grant, said that he used his life savings to purchase a used camper to live in until repairs are made to his home.

FEMA said they are still getting about 48 to 50 requests a day from Connecticut residents impacted by the floods. Bob Fogel, a FEMA officer, said that once registered, it will take a couple of days for agents to request to come inspect your home. After that, residents will have the money in their account.

“Document your lose, save your receipts, take photographs, because that is what’s going to help determine what resources are available,” Sen. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn) said.

Blumenthal said that the limit per person is $42,000 for structural damage and another $42,000 for contents of the home to be replaced.

To register, go to disasterassistance.gov, call 1-800-621-3362, download the FEMA app or go to a disaster recovery center.
