CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Help is now available for homeowners and businesses affected by August’s deadly flooding. Local and state officials are highlighting efforts by the Small Business Administration.

FEMA is opening a recovery office on Wednesday. FEMA said it has already registered more than 900 people, and more than $2 million is available to people affected by August’s deadly flooding.

The Small Business Administration has already opened two recovery centers, and on Tuesday, top officials will visit one of them to demonstrate the government’s efforts to help business owners.

Over 900 Connecticut residents registered for FEMA relief after historic flooding

WTNH has talked to many of them in the past six weeks. From chicken farms to day care centers, businesses were destroyed, and they had to start over from scratch.

In-person help is available at two different locations, Oxford and Monroe. Meanwhile, FEMA is about to open a similar center for everyone else in Southbury.

Officials said it’s important to make sure you have proof of everything you lost.

“Document your loss, save your receipts, take photographs, because that is what’s going to help determine what resources are available,” said U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro.

FEMA has also been going door to door in impacted neighborhoods. Affected homeowners and business owners can get tens of thousands of dollars to help with recovery.

The Southbury FEMA office is scheduled to open on Wednesday on Main Street.

“Once they’re registered with FEMA, within a few days they should get a request for an inspection of their home, and a couple days after that…sometimes the next day, they will have money in their account,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer Bob Fogel.
