AVON, Conn. (WTNH) — A man is facing charges, including risk of injury to a child, after hitting a minor on a bicycle last night in Avon.

The Avon Police Department says around 9:15 Friday night, a person reported debris in the roadway near the areas of Arch Rd. and Security Dr. The area was temporarily closed for police investigation that determined a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle.

Both the operator and bicyclist left the scene but shortly after, police received another call of a “pedestrian struck by a vehicle” in the area of 73 Harris Rd. Further investigation determined this pedestrian to be the one who was struck on Arch Rd.

With the help of witnesses, officers located Alex Rivera and his vehicle. Rivera’s charges include reckless endangerment in the first degree, evading responsibility causing serious injury, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and two counts of risk of injury to a child.

The juvenile is being treated at Hartford Hospital and the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
