The Southington Apple Harvest Festival began this weekend at the Southington Town Green.

There was fun for all ages, including apple-themed food, rides, local vendors and live entertainment.

Admission and parking for the six day event is free. The event has become one of the Connecticut’s top tourist events, highlighting the area while entering peak fall foliage.

The Apple Harvest Festival drew a large crowd, as usual. Organizers say that the festival usually draws around 100,000 visitors.

“My favorite thing is the apple fritter eating contest,” said Apple Harvest Ambassador Andrew Percival. ” I am a three-time champion of the apple fritter eating contest. It’s my favorite thing in the world.”

The festival continues Sunday with a parade as well as October 11th,12th and 13th.
