    1 dead, 10 displaced after fire on Elm Street in New Haven

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man initially reported in critical condition, has died as a result of smoke inhalation from a residential fire this morning in New Haven.

    Just before 6:30 a.m., the New Haven Fire Department responded to the 500 block of Elm Street after a fire broke out on the second floor. Fire crews encountered heavy flames from both the second and third floors and immediately rescued an unconscious man.

    According to the New Haven Fire Department’s X page , a total of two occupants were removed from the home and CPR was conducted. The unconscious man was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital in critical condition, and has died as a result of his injuries.

    The fire also displaced ten occupants.

    “An aggressive attack was made,” said emergency crews, and the fire is under investigation.
