BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was shot by police in Bridgeport after he stabbed an officer with a knife early Saturday morning, according to police.

Bridgeport officers were called to a residence on the 100 block of Terry Place for an “emotionally disturbed person.” At the scene, officers encountered 45-year-old Huntley Jackson, who they said brandished a knife.

After displaying the weapon, police said Jackson stabbed an officer in the shoulder, neck and head. Officers then shot Jackson, who is now in critical condition at Saint Vincent’s Hospital.

The injured officer was treated and later released from the hospital.

Jackson’s bond was set at $1 million, and police said his charges would include attempted murder, assault in the first degree, assault on a public safety officer, threatening in the second degree, interfering/resisting arrest, and carrying a dangerous weapon.

“When a police officer uses deadly force during the course of his or her duties, it is essential that a thorough investigation is conducted,” the Bridgeport Police Department said.

The officers involved have been assigned to modified duty as the Office of Inspector General, state police’s Western District Major Crime Squad, and the Office of the States Attorney investigate.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Office of the Inspector General at (203) 806-1595.
