NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The northern lights were visible in Connecticut over the weekend.

Photos captured by News 8 viewers show the dazzling pink and turquoise lights over Connecticut.

Typically, to see the spectacular colors of aurora borealis, commonly known as the northern nights, one would need to visit somewhere much farther north, like Alaska or Canada. The National Weather Service and NASA explained that a “very rare” geomagnetic storm could make them visible much farther south than normal.

I saw them myself in Middletown the last time they were here. It's always been a dream of mine. When I saw something of odd color out of my bathroom window, I began to cry. It was beautiful.
