NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A new grant will help a New Haven-based organization potentially give at-risk kids and teens a new path in life.

Connecticut Violence Intervention and Prevention , or CTVIP, received a $100,000 grant from the Everytown Community Safety Fund. The grant is part of a nationwide effort to reduce crime and gun violence.

Kwamaine McCarter, a violence prevention professional with CTVIP, said the organization aims to help high-risk youth find new opportunities.

“Kids who end up like fighting, gun violence, stolen cars, probably facing expulsion from school,” McCarter said. “We work with them to provide resources and keep them safe.”

“Being able to give them the daily living skills, the entrepreneurship, how to make their own money in a healthy way,” said Alivia Langley, program manager with CTVIP. “I think it is huge for the grant that we got and being able to implement those things right in New Haven.”
