WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Over 1,000 people gathered on Monday at the Beth El Temple in West Hartford to remember Hamas’ attack on Israel that happened one year ago.

“We said never again, and all of a sudden it happened again one year ago,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “It is the most horrible sadistic brutal attack, we are here one year later to say that we have Israel’s back.”

The community remembered those lost not only one year ago, but throughout the past year with memorial videos, prayers and scripture readings.

One rabbi said that Israelis are experts at rising up through the ashes.

“It is so important that we come together in unity both as a community to demonstrate our own solidarity to support each other, with a demonstrate to our Israeli brothers and sisters that we stand with them that the Jewish American community stands with them that the broader community stands with them and that our government leaders stand with them,” David Warren, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, said.
