HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A purple flag was raised outside of the state capitol building on Tuesday in Hartford to raise awareness for domestic violence.

According to the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four women in Connecticut and one in seven men will experience some form of domestic violence. State leaders and advocates hope that this flag serves as a symbol of hope.

Domestic violence survivors inspire hope and change

“Your life does not end in violence,” Adanna, a survivor and advocate of domestic violence, said. “Your life does not have to continue in violence.”

Some local resources are available for anyone who needs help.
