HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Social media giant TikTok is facing lawsuits in 14 different states, claiming that the app is harming the mental health of young people.

States sue TikTok, alleging platform is addictive, harms kids’ mental health

Lawsuits say that the algorithm is “addictive,” and that the platform is “wreaking havoc on the mental health of millions of American children and teenagers.” Attorney General William Tong is investigating into the app.

“So this is broad investigation that we are bringing against TikTok, and now we are significantly ramping up that investigation by going to court today and saying that TikTok is not complying with our requests in the lawsuit and the court should make them do that,” Tong said.

TikTok released a statement about these lawsuits, saying that they are working to find solutions to these challenges.
