NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)—People across the Southeast will face massive challenges in the coming weeks and months as they rebuild from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

As we know, the destructive winds, storm surges, heavy rainfall, and flooding have and will ruin homes and communities.

The AARP Foundation says older adults could be some of the most vulnerable. That’s why they’ve created a relief fund to support those victims.

The Latest: Hurricane Milton weakens to Category 1, but danger remains in Florida

The organization matches funds up to $400,000 with 100 percent of all funds going to disaster victims.

Children and animals are also among the most vulnerable disaster victims.
Organizations like Baby2Baby and Save the Children bring needed items like diapers, formula, baby food, and blankets to families impacted by these catastrophic weather events.

When it comes to animals, The Humane Society of the United States has a rescue team helping transport animals in shelters to safety so that shelters don’t become overwhelmed.

The Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, and Direct Relief are other organizations that can help.
