CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Last month, there were 50 swatting calls at schools in Connecticut, an amount that Berlin Police Chief Matt McNally calls “inordinate.”

The calls are false threats of bombs, guns and active shooters. Some of them are also posted on social media, which get passed around by parents and students and snowball from there.

Police say that as soon as you see something, it’s important to report it.

“It all starts with people sharing information with law enforcement right off the rip, every threat is taken seriously, we investigate every threat that you see,” Connecticut State Police Trooper Jose Rivera said.

The Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC) handles everything from terrorists threats to threats on schools to make sure that the right people are in the right place.

The CTIC is made up of dozens of agencies, from homeland security to the FBI on the federal level to the national guard and state police on the local level.

So far, they have taken 20 people into custody in the past month.

“We have arrested multiple people whether they are juveniles or adults or they could even be groups, it varies from town to town and state to state,” Rivera said.
