PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — A neighbor said her door was damaged after a suspect banged on it with a hammer in the middle of the night Monday.

The incident was caught on home surveillance video. It shows two people wearing sweatshirts and backpacks. That neighbor said it happened at 3:45 a.m. and believes one of the suspects used a hammer to the bang on the door before the two ran away. It may look like the prank ding dong ditch, but police said the banging caused damage, making it a criminal act.

Police also received another report in the same Plainville neighborhood off of East Street. Officers said someone banged on the door of a home, also leaving damage.

“People pay a lot of money for their homes and when things like that happen, it’s up to the homeowner to replace their property,” neighbor Brianne Devoy said, reacting to the video. “It’s very bothersome.”

That same night, police said a neighbor called saying their political lawn signs were ripped in half. Officers believe it’s likely to be the same two people who were banging on doors.

“I think that’s terrible,” Marguerite Burris, another neighbor, said. “Parents don’t take care of their kids, they don’t understand. There’s no remedy if they do something wrong so kids have no clue.”

Police are investigating all three cases and hope to have more information on who the suspects are in the coming days. Neighbors hope they are caught soon.

“They need to know there’s consequences for what they do,” Burris said. “I’m a big believer in that.”
