NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Donations are pouring in for the Norwich family who lost their young daughter and almost everything else during a devastating fire on Tuesday.

7-year-old girl dies after being pulled from fire in Norwich

“I was in early at 7 this morning and people were walking in with donations then so it’s nice to see everyone coming together,” Scott Dupointe, a Norwich Police Investigator, said.

Police, fire and the board of education in Norwich joined forces to help the family devastated by this awful fire. The firefighters who pulled the 7-year old girl from the flames also needed support and a peer team was there to provide it.

“It’s challenging,” Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Montoya said. “You know we made the resources available and many of them took advantage of those resources and they support each other as we always do.”

They, like many, are affected by the tragic loss of the little girl. Her 12-year-old sister and 5-year-old brother made it out before the flames consumed their Summit Street home.

“We have SROs that have been really close to these kids,” Dupointe said. “All three of the kids so it’s good to tie it all together and do the best that we can for them.”

Organizers asked and the community delivered.

“Everyone needs help. You got to help them out as much as you can,” Uncasville resident Andrew Jackson, who is concerned about the family, said. “Oh yes.”

“We have an iPad and the headphones that one of the students wanted and a family donated it,” Yelitza Brooks, the communications and family engagement coordinator for Norwich Public Schools.

More specifically, a child donated the iPad to another child.

People can drop off money and other donations at the school department’s central office and the police station which is open 24/7.

“They lost everything,” Dupointe said. “Even some of the stuff that is valuable sustained smoke damage you’ll never get that smoke out.”

Organizers have even provided the exact size shoes and clothing needed for this family.

“They are just amazed,” Brooks said. “They’re thankful.”
