    A woman and two cats are recovering after a structure fire in New Haven

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — An occupant sustained smoke inhalation, and two cats were rescued after an early morning structure fire in New Haven.

    Around 4:30 this morning, heavy smoke could be seen coming from the porch and basement windows of an apartment on 73 Haven St. According to fire officials, the flames began in the basement, and two cats were discovered during a search of the residence.

    Firefighters say a woman inside the home sustained smoke inhalation and a burn to her hand.

    The flames were extinguished just after 5:00 a.m. and the cause is under investigation.
