BURLINGTON, Conn, (WTNH) — The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department has been battling a forest fire since early Saturday morning.

Burlington Fire and EMS were dispatched to Stafford Road at 2:01 a.m. where they located a brush fire in a large wooded area south of Sherman and Burlwood Drives.

The fire was partially contained at 4:10 a.m. but it wasn’t until 4:45 p.m. that crews were able to reach full containment and partial extinguishment.

Burlington received aid and additional forestry firefighting equipment from Farmington Fire Department and the Tunxis Hose Company.

Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Forestry division reported that almost six acres were burnt.

No injuries were reported but smoke is expected to remain in the area for several days.

There is no current estimate on a full extinguishment due to the remote location of the brush fire and other extenuating circumstances. Fire crews will return Sunday morning to continue checking the area.
