ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) — Both the Rocky Hill and Wethersfield police departments arrested a suspect involved in a stand off lasting several hours at the Shell Gas Station on Silas Deane Highway Sunday.

Luis Rolon walked out in cuffs after a five hour standoff at the Rocky Hill gas station. He was surrounded by police following an alleged assault in Wethersfield.

“I was woken up by screaming,” said Katie Ayer who witnessed the assault. “I look out my window and saw a guy punching a woman.”

Ayer was staying at the Motel 6, just a few buildings away from the gas station, when she says she witnessed the assault around 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

“I was afraid for her. I was just hoping she was ok,” said Ayer. “I saw they had a stretcher so thank god she went to the hospital so she’s in good hands.”

Police released few details and have not commented on the extent of the victim’s injuries. They say the investigation brought them to the gas station where Rolon barricaded himself.

A SWAT team in tactical gear with rifles surrounded the building for hours, using rubber bullets and chainsaws to breach the building. Their focus appeared to be on the attic.

This all happened in daylight, in a busy, high traffic, area at the Wethersfield town line. Dozens of passers-by stopped to see what happened.

Anthony Faienza, a Wethersfield resident and frequent visitor that Shell Station said, “I was going to get water and stuff for her and then we were actually literally going to this gas station and next thing you see is all this SWAT.”

First responders from Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, Glastonbury and Enfield assisted in the investigation.

Rolon was charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Disordely Conduct. He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow.
