MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – Dr. Shelby Haines has been named the West Virginia Music Educators Association Superintendent of the Year.

Dr. Haines is known for her kindness and caring nature towards all students and staff within Marshall County schools and a strong supporter of the arts.

John Marshall High School Band Director Tracey Filben nominated Haines for the award and found out she had won the award just in time to attend the Conference in Charleston.

Filben says she is so grateful for the support from Dr. Haines.

“This year definitely seemed appropriate to nominate Dr. Haynes for Marshall County. She is extremely supportive of not only the arts, but everything that we offer in Marshall County schools.”

“It was quite an honor to be given this award. We are very blessed in Marshall County with wonderful music teachers who are so personally talented but also so passionate about music and have really changed the lives of a lot of kids here. We’re really lucky.”
