MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – A group of concerned citizens in Marshall County are banding together to create a brighter economic outlook for the area.

The Marshall County Community Development Group is in the process of becoming a non-profit.

These individuals came together because they want to see the county grow and prosper, but they don’t see it happening right now.

Some of the areas they plan to focus on will revolve around increasing tourism, by using iconic landmarks like the Moundsville Penitentiary to draw in visitors.

“We’ve got to stop the bleeding and my group is willing to make that happen and believes in what I’m saying and we’re willing to make it happen…Come to Moundsville. Believe me, there’s a lot of good things happening in Moundsville, and we continue to grow and positive thinking brings positive results.”

Philip Remke, Chairman of the MCCDG

Other focuses for the MCCDG will be on beautification, well-designed websites, murals, fundraisers, housing and entertainment.

We’re going to continue to follow their efforts, so stay with 7NEWS for updates.
