    Ohio Valley middle school student gets ready to make it count at national MATHCOUNTS Competition

    OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) — Peilin Yu, a bright seventh-grade student from Triadelphia Middle School, qualified to compete in the National MATHCOUNTS Competition.

    The competition will consist of the sprint, target, team, and countdown rounds.

    Problems can take anywhere from eight minutes to an hour to answer, depending on the number of questions in each round.

    Yu says that she utilizes practice problems to prepare for the big day.

    “I think it’s a great opportunity because, you know it’s at a national level so there’s going to be a lot of different mathematicians there, so I think I’ll learn a lot at this competition, so I’m really excited.”

    Yu says that she is thankful to her parents and coaches for pushing her to succeed in math.

    The MATHCOUNTS Competition will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 12 and 13.

    Best of luck to Yu in representing Ohio County Schools and West Virginia.
