STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Deacon Paul D. Ward, director, Office of Christian Formation and Schools, along with the pastors of the local parishes who support and govern Steubenville Catholic Schools, say they are happy to announce that Catholic Central High School and Bishop John King Mussio Central Junior High School will become one school with one administration and one faculty, July 1.

Sixth through 12th grades will be known as Catholic Central High School.

Deacon Ward said, “As one school, our administration will truly be able build a sense of community, as well as to work more efficiently when it comes to tasks such as state reports and accreditation.”

Father Michael W. Gossett, pastoral administrator of CCHS, added, “I see it as imperative to foster real unity throughout our entire faculty and staff. We are one school working together towards a common goal.”

Father Gossett said there is also a benefit in fundraising for one school with one name. All of the programs will benefit together with a single identity.

Deacon Ward indicated this would not change the junior high-level athletics program. They will continue to be Junior Crusaders within the larger Crusader sports program. He said these students would continue to eat lunch with their classmates, utilize the same classrooms in the same area of the building, and take part in some of the same distinctive activities that they have enjoyed for years.

The deacon said a new additional guidance counselor would be responsible for grades six through eight, to provide students of every grade level with the support they need.

He also said the plan to relocate the sixth grade to the elementary building once the new elementary annex is completed would remain in effect.
