WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Police Department reminds those traveling throughout the City of Wheeling on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 to be aware of those participating in this coming weekend’s Ogden Half-Marathon and Wellness Weekend.

Officials say the city-wide half-marathon running and walking events will begin around 7:15 a.m., Saturday and will last until roughly 11 a.m.

According to officials, this year the course will be changed slightly, due to construction downtown and in Elm Grove.

The course will use parts of 14 th Street, Jacob Street and 16 th Street in downtown. The race also will extend into 39 th Street in South Wheeling.

Officials say due to the Monument Place Bridge closure in Elm Grove, the course will use Evelyn Avenue and Junior Avenue. Residents in the Hil-Dar neighborhood will have limited access on Saturday morning and must enter and exit via National Road.

“We’re asking the public to only access that neighborhood if you need to, and to try and access that via National Road and Lava Avenue. Evelyn Avenue will be closed to traffic, so nobody on Bethlehem Boulevard can get in there, that’s for runner’s safety, and the same is true for Junior Avenue Extension.”

Josh Sanders, Deputy Chief of the Investigations Bureau at the Wheeling Police Department

    FRIDAY, MAY 24

    • FULTON AREA ONLY: Beginning around 7 a.m. and lasting until roughly 11 a.m., city operations will be sweeping National Road from Mount de Chantal Road to McColloch Street. This area will be marked with signage. Once completed, motorists can park on the road.
    • Parking is permitted all day and evening Friday throughout the entire course.

    SATURDAY, MAY 25

    • Police will be clearing the course of any vehicle parked in a POSTED “NO PARKING” area after 12:01 a.m., Saturday. Vehicles will be TOWED if not properly moved in time for the race. These areas will be marked with signage.
    • NO PARKING areas that will be strictly enforced are the Elm Grove Business District, Fulton area, parts of Downtown, and Center/South Wheeling.
    • Parking will be permitted once the race fully concludes late Saturday morning.
    • BUS ROUTES: OVTRA’s downtown bus stop on Nailers Way will relocate Saturday morning to Eoff Street between 16 th and 17 th Street.

Officials say participants and spectators gathering at the start/finish line downtown are strongly encouraged to park in the Robert C. Byrd Intermodal Transportation Center, located at 1401 Main Street.

According to officials, access will only be available from the Main Street entrance.

Police advise not traveling along the race route unless needed, but those who will need to are urged to drive below the posted speed limit and be extra cautious of those running or walking.

Wheeling Police officers will be stationed at most major intersections for traffic control. Drivers are advised to watch for coned-off lanes in various areas and look for participants on the right side of the road.

    SUNDAY, MAY 26

There will be various road closures and minor traffic delays in the downtown/Center Wheeling area on Sunday, May 28 for the ‘Tough as Nails’ Urban Challenge.

The race will take place on Saturday May 25 from 7:15 am to 11 am. The Wheeling Police Department reminds runners to stay on the right-hand side of the road as some roads will remain open during the race.

No Parking areas will be marked and strictly enforced in the Elm Grove Business District, Fulton area, parts of Downtown, Center and South Wheeling. Vehicles will be towed if not properly moved in time for the race.
