    Bellaire residents honor Memorial Day at Union Square Park

    Bellaire, OHIO (WTRF) – In a ceremony today at Union Square Park in Bellaire, more than a hundred people gathered to honor those who died while serving.

    Fallen soldiers from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces where remembered in the ceremony, which included a presentation of memorial wreaths.

    U.S. Army Veteran Richard “Chad” Balwanz served as the main speaker.

    He’s a 1970 graduate of Bellaire High School, and was awarded several medals and declarations including a Silver Star, and the Army Achievement Medal.

    He paid special tribute to Bellaire soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

    One of those killed was Donald Robert Schramm. Schramm- had lived on Rock Hill and Neffs. He is buried in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Today we remember Donald Schramm along with the oter thirty-six thousand, five hundred and seventy-four Americans killed in the Korean War.

    The ceremony concluded with the playing of Taps and several patriotic songs by the Jackson Middle School Choir.
