    $7 million for sewer upgrades in Hancock County

    HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – The West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council (WVIJD) announced $40 million in funding for sewer and water projects throughout the Mountain State.

    Several areas of Hancock County will be receiving nearly $7 million in grant funds from this project including the City of Weirton, Tomlinson Run PSD and the Hancock County PSD.

    The council approved a $165,000 grant and a $14.7 million loan to the City of Weirton that will be used for improvements to its Water Treatment Plant.

    Funds from the Congressionally Directed Spending and the Hancock County Commission along with other funding amounting to $44.3 million will be used for Weirton’s project.

    The council approved a $6.5 million grant to the Hancock County PSD for improvements to its sewer system and improvements to the Newell system.

    The Newell Company was declared a failing utility back in 2022.

    According to the WVIDJ press release, funds from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Hancock County Commission and other funding programs, will provide $25.6 million for Hancock County PSDs projects.

    The council approved a $403,643 grant to Tomlinson Run PSD for improvements to the Newell water system. Funds from the DWTRF, the Hancock County Commission and other funding programs will provide around $12.7 million for Tomlins Run PSDs project.
