23rd annual Grecian Festival returns to Center Wheeling today

Wheeling, W.Va. (WTRF) – The countdown is on, as one of the area’s largest celebration’s of Greek culture, faith and heritage starts today

Right now dozens of workers and volunteers are busy working to get ready for the 23rd annual Grecian Festival in Center Wheeling. It’s put on each year by the parishioners of St. John the Divine, Greek Orthodox Church.

The four-day festival features authentic Greek cuisine with favorites such as gyros and baklava.
There is also a full menu gourmet dinners in the inside dining area.

In addition to the great food, there is a full slate of entertainment, including traditional Greek dancers and live music.

“When it’s time to start the dancing exhibition, people gather around, they get their chair and they are given quite a show. They are throwing money, some of our dancers are dancing on tables. They put on a really nice performance. The weather is going to be great. There is plenty of parking. Come down and experience what it’s like to be Greek for a day, if you will. i promise you, you won’t be disappointed and you will come back again every year.”

New to the festival this year will be a Greek Market. It will be located on the Hellenic Center balcony and include items such as clothing, jewelry, spices and other imported items.

There will be cooking classes each day of the festival at 2:00pm and 4:00pm, as well as tours of the church.

On Saturday at 5:00pm there will be a special prayer service dedicated to the healing of our nation.
