“Behind every excellent person, there’s an excellent teacher”: Local teachers honored at annual Steak Fry

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – As we enter back-to-school season, it’s the teachers who are preparing to shape the futures of their students.

That’s why each year, the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce honors just three teachers – one from Elementary, Middle, and High School – to receive their “Teacher of The Year” award.

They honored them at their annual Steak Fry and Partners in Education Awards at the Wheeling Ohio County Airport for their teaching efficiency, their students’ proficiency, and their level of commitment to educating our future.

This year’s recipients were Mia Huck from Ritchie Elementary, Abby Reeves from Triadelphia Middle, and Betsy Knorr from Wheeling Central.

”Behind every excellent person, there’s an excellent teacher. And sometimes it’s those people that go under the radar and they’re not out there in the community because they’re with our students and they’re teaching those people that are out in the community. I know my favorite teachers have gotten me to where I am today. So, to be able to take an evening and celebrate those people that oftentimes don’t get the celebration that they deserve, it’s so important.”

They also awarded the recipients of the Williams Lea Scholarship, and the new Paull Associates Scholarship this year.
