JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -(WTRF) — Jefferson County was the place to be on Sunday for anyone who loves planes and aviation.

The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 859 hosted its first touch-a-plane event today at the Jefferson County Airpark in Wintersville.

The event was open to anyone in the community but was meant to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for adults and children with physical and mental disabilities.

Many of the planes on display were all hand-built.

Guests were able to sit in the planes and learn more about how planes operate.

The president of the chapter says the event is one that is perfect for families.

When you can do something, especially if you have other children as well, that you can all do as a family and everyone’s included and everyone can feel like they’ve had a day out to see something new, have some fun, just enjoy something together as a family. I think that’s the main purpose and the most important thing.”

Maryann Freeze, President, EAA Chapter 859

Freeze says the chapter hopes the event will become an annual one that continues to grow year after year.
