( WTRF ) – Two Wheeling Residents are behind bars after a shooting at North Park Apartments, and nearly 100 dispensaries across Ohio are selling recreational marijuana.

7News Reporter Annalise Murphy looks back at this week’s top stories.

2 people arrested; 1 for malicious wounding after shooting in Ohio County leaving 1 in serious condition

Two Wheeling residents are in the North Regional Jail after one male was found in his North Park apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.

18-year-old Dashae Young and 19-year-old Tanya Park have both been charged, Young with one count of malicious wounding and Park with possession with intent to deliver.

The victim, Myles Edmond Wright, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Ohio Valley sees first recreational marijuana sales in Ohio

Tuesday, Aug. 6, marked a historic day for the Buckeye State with the official first day of recreational marijuana sales.

Sunnyside Dispensary in Wintersville made some of their first sales just after 9 in the morning.

Some residents commented they’ve waited years for this moment.

“I’m 30 and I’ve been waiting since I was 18 for this day. And honestly, it will bring a lot of revenue. You know, they say the state needs money and everything. It’ll bring them good business to the state of Ohio.”

Nearly 100 dispensaries across Ohio are now selling recreational and medical marijuana.

Bridgeport Schools highlight long history of AED preparedness

WTRF has been working on some special back-to-school reports and this week’s focus was on health and safety.

Recently, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a bill that mandates every school building must have an Automatic External Defibrillator, commonly known as an AED.

7News Reporter D.K. Wright visited Bridgeport Schools in Belmont County who had no problem complying since they’ve had them for years.

The American Heart Association says 350,000 cardiac arrests occur every year. About 90% are fatal. They estimate that nine out of ten could have been saved, if an AED had been used.

Marshall County bus operators give back to school safety tips

Over in Marshall County, I was able to visit their transportation center to learn more about how the bus operators are preparing for the new school year.

Operator and Trainer Wilson Barnes tells me they work all summer to ensure students’ safety.

Before any bus leaves the garage, it goes through a pre-trip inspection and does not leave if it fails any criteria.

In addition, bus operators meet with their students before the first day to go over safety rules like keeping the isle clear, no eating or drinking and even how to safely cross the road.

The biggest reminder is to STOP when a bus has its sign out and its red lights activated.
