WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — One local state senator is being recognized nationally for her efforts, contribution, and achievements as an elected official.

West Virginia Senator Laura Wakim Chapman who serves in District 1 was recently awarded the Legislators Excellence Award from the Reason Foundation. The Reason Foundation is a national organization that focuses on free markets and limited government.

The award comes as Senator Chapman has led several efforts to expand the workforce in West Virginia. She has also made many efforts surrounding infrastructure, broadband, and the youth in West Virginia.

”I never do anything for the recognition, but it’s always nice to kind of know that I’m doing good and trying to help the people in West Virginia and being honored for that is definitely something that is really meaningful to me and I’m very thankful.”
