ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) – I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! – And the Ohio Valley has been screaming for Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream for the last 32 years!  Kirke opened his shop on August 12 th , 1992.

They celebrated their 32 nd Anniversary by throwing it back to how much they charged for a cone over 30 years ago – just $1!

Anyone who ordered ice cream all day today only had to pay a buck.

Some were new customers, and some have been supporting Kirke for the last 32 years.

Mike was one of Kirke’s very first customers when the doors opened in the 90s.

”I knew him from church. I knew them from community activities. Everything they touched turns into a good business. It is good quality, but they’re good people. That’s the answer. They’re good people. They fit in this community.”

Mike Fador – Returning Kirke’s Customer

”Well, you know, I didn’t have a clue, you know. I just said, well, I want to make ice cream. So that’s what we did. We started and the place was packed like it is now. You know, just every night everyone was here.”

Kirke Porterfield – Owner, Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream

Kirke’s has seen both familiar and new faces over the years, like their personal mascot Wilbur who was hired on for quality control.

Kirke says he learned about ice cream from his late grandfather’s ice cream business, who will soon be celebrating its 100 th anniversary!

Kirke wants to thank the entire community “a million” for their continued support throughout the years, and hopefully many more to come.
