CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — West Virginia’s iconic Greenbrier Resort is set to be auctioned off in just over two weeks. Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV), whose family has owned the hotel for 15 years, is calling the move pure politics.

Gov. Justice has a lot on his plate these days: he is finishing up his second term and is now running for the U.S. Senate.

At the same time, the Greenbrier Resort, which is operated by Justice’s two children, is scheduled for public auction after defaulting on its loan. The auction is scheduled for Aug. 27.

Justice said the loan was sold by J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, without any warning to the Justice companies. He said the CEO of Morgan Chase has strong ties to the Biden-Harris Administration and he’s being targeted. It’s a charge Democrats call ridiculous.

“It makes no sense unless it was politically driven 100%. 100%. This is all about Jim Justice running for the Senate. This is all about Jim Justice being the one that flips the United States Senate,” said Gov. Jim Justice, (R) West Virginia.

“If you or I ran our businesses like a shell game, like Jim Justice does, we’d be forced into bankruptcy. And if you or I failed to pay our taxes, we’d be more likely to wind up in jail, than the U.S. Senate,” said Del. Mike Pushkin (D) Kanawha – State Party Chairman.

Gov. Justice said his family has paid tens of millions of dollars on the loan with the debt now paid down to just over $9 million. He said more payments will be made and he believes the auction of the Greenbrier will not happen.

None of this will affect this weekend’s “LIV Golf Tournament” which begins Friday and will give the Greenbrier three days of nationwide TV coverage.

The resort employs about 2,000 people.
