MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – West Virginia State Senator Michael J. Maroney was arrested on Tuesday and charged with 2 misdemeanors.

The charges are Indecent Exposure and Disorderly Conduct.

Marshall County Prosecuter Joe Canestraro tells 7News that sometime this Tuesday afternoon, a criminal complaint was filed against Maroney concerning an incident that occurred on Sunday at a gaming Parlor in Glen Dale, where he was accused of performing an overt act of self gratification.

That complaint was then filed by Chief Ed Vogler of the Glen Dale Police Department and Maroney was booked at the Northern Regional Jail around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

“This stemmed out of an investigation that began on Sunday, August 4th, around 12:00 noon, 12:30 p.m., wherein the Glendale Police Department received a call from two female employees at a local gaming parlor about a man that was committing an overt act of sexual gratification in the gaming parlor. Chief Vogler responded at that location and found Michael Moroney in the gaming room alone and was identified by the females just as the person that they saw on the surveillance video.”

Disorderly conduct carries a potential sentence of 24 hours in jail and up to $100 fine. Indecent exposure carries up to one year in jail and up to a $500 fine.

Maroney is a member of the Republican Party representing District 2. He first took office in 2016, and was re-elected in 2020. He lost in the Republican Primary in 2024.

His current term in the West Virginia Legislature will expire on December 1st.
