CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — With the full legalization of marijuana in Ohio, what does this mean for use in West Virginia?

Currently there is a strict medical marijuana policy in place, but in terms of recreational use – that’s yet to be determined.

West Virginia House of Delegates Shawn Fluharty says 60% of Ohioans went to the polls to fight for full legalization.

He believes this decision should be in the hands of West Virginians as well.

“If my colleagues are too scared to vote for legalization let the people decide, then we can go back and put the framework in place just like Ohio did. I’ve been pushing for West Virginia to get out in front of this, we are always competing against our neighbors and right now they’re winning.”

Shawn Fluharty, WV House of Delegates, District 5, Ohio County

Fluharty says that by allowing full legalization, West Virginia could be pulling in revenue that’s been left on the table. For now, the decision is still under consideration.
