HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – The Hancock County Animal Shelter is being proactive in their mission of finding animals their forever homes with a new program called “Take Home Tuesdays.”

The goal is to keep the shelter open longer so more people can visit and interact with the animals.

Hope Sayre, the Daily Medical and Operations Manager, says they plan to host their first “Take Home Tuesday” starting in September.

“We will be here until 8 p.m. every [Take Home Tuesday] night to make it a little more convenient for people with their working schedules. They can still come in and adopt an animal. We are looking for sponsors, like businesses, that want to sponsor the adoption fees so we can make “Take Home Tuesdays” free for the public. We want to make it easier to get these cats and dogs into good homes, even when we don’t have a big event going on.”

The shelter is currently housing 15 dogs and 60 cats.

If you’re interested in sponsoring an adoption for “Take Home Tuesdays” call the shelter at (304) 387-4102 or email Sayre at hsayre@hcaswv.org.

Adoption fees for cats are $50 and $100 for dogs. Adoption fees include all major vaccinations, spay/neuter and getting the animal microchipped.

During July, Hancock County Animal Shelter partnered with the Bissell Pet Foundation for their “Empty the Shelters” event. Sayre says it was a huge success with 109 adoptions.
