When the clock struck August this summer, Indian Creek reigned in a new era with the return of Midnight Madness.

It’s been 11 years since fans lined up to watch Oklahoma Drills under the lights, and with it, they saw a new level of toughness.

“I think that’s something to put a little juice into not only our football program but our parents and fans, we were out here from 12-1:15, then we spent the night and got back out here for practice you know, and I think just trying to develop a culture out here of toughness, just being able to say were going to run the ball when we have to and be able to stop the run.”>

Coming off a 2-8 season, the Redskins have now been under .500 for 4 consecutive seasons. As part of their culture rebuild, Creek will focus on their mentality above all else.

“We don’t want to live in our fear; that’s our biggest thing. We talked about that, and we worked really hard at being good. We want to talk about being good, and we want to be good.”

One benefit to the team will be experience, with many starters returning. In the backfield it’s Zion McGee, Gavin Pownall & Jayce Net commanding the carries… with Ian Starkey back under center looking for his weapons in Kyle Shultz, Mason Lester, Xavier Vines & Jomar Johnson.

Protecting him will be Nishon White, Semaj White, Brenan Monroe, Adam Ray & Luke McMillan up front.

On the other side, it will be Linebackers Bruce Mazar & Justin Vergona anchoring a defense that intends to improve on 3rd down.

“I thought we gave up too many big plays, we stop a team on 1st down, we stop a team on 2nd down, and then we give up a big play, so I think the kids know how close we were and the things we need to work on to get better.”

While the extent of the Redskins ability to get off the field is still unknown, the true test of their progress will be felt by opponents the morning after their games.

“Yea we’re going to play hard, the one thing we want to make sure is no matter what happens Friday we want the other team to know they played Indian Creek and that’s how we’re going to play football this year.”

Their first test this year will be Cambridge, who Creek hosts August 23rd.
