WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – The first full moon for the month of August is named after North America’s largest fish, the sturgeon. Hence why it is called the Sturgeon Moon.

This event will take place on Monday August 19, with it achieving peak fullest at 2:25 PM.

Other names for Augusts Full Moon are: Grain Moon, Corn Moon, and Lightning Moon.

The weather will not favor optimal viewing, but skies will start to clear Monday night into Tuesday, so there will be a chance to view the Moon at a larger capacity midway through the week.
