WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — What can a quarter buy these days?

Well, the answer is quite a bit, at least for Friday.

It was the Salvation Army’s Annual National Thrift Store Day.

Officials say it’s the busiest day of the year at their store on 16th Street here in Wheeling.

Almost all items in the store are priced at twenty-five cents.

Lieutenant John Lawrence says it is a great opportunity for the community, especially those in need or on a fixed income.

This morning, before we opened, the line was all the way around the corner into our parking lot. Some of them are just people who are living paycheck to paycheck or month to month, and this gives them an extra boost going into the fall.”

Proceeds from the sale help support the shelter and its many assistance programs.
