Two bullets were found on a school bus which led to Wheeling Park High School starting the year in a lockdown. No firearms were found, and the lockdown was lifted around 1 p-m.

According to school officials, Wheeling PD were on the scene immediately. After a thorough two-hour search, the school was deemed safe but remained in lockdown as a precaution.

Ohio County Schools assistant superintendent Rick Jones says staff and students did a phenomenal job of following procedure and working with police officers to keep everyone safe.

“It was not what I would call an emergency situation, it was a procedural situation to investigate to try see if there were any more bullets in the building or a gun. It took about 2 hours to search 1500 bookbags and students. We will make sure everyone is safe and if they’re not, you will know that and if they are we will continue to tell you their safe.”

Jones says parents were kept up to date throughout the investigation as police scanned the school.

He says next steps include finding the person responsible for the bullets and moving forward accordingly.
