St. Clairsville Students Start New School Year

St Clairsville, OH (WTRF) The Saint Clairsville Red Devils began the school year today after a sweltering summer break.

Over the summer, some big projects were completed at the high school including new turf on the athletic field, which is used by many students throughout the year.

Also, a new roof was installed on the gymnasium and a new telephone system so classrooms can have a direct link to emergency services.

A new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) rotation was added to the elementary school so that students can get hands on learning experience.

“It’s awesome to have the kids back. It seems like we never left but at the same time, hearing the chattering in the hallways and the excitement on recess, it’s just exciting to have the kids back in school. You can hear them in the background here. They’re excited to see their friends and make new friends. So, I think everyone’s happy to be back in action.”

Dr. Skaggs says the new phone system is inside every classroom in the district and is meant to provide immediate access to emergency services should an emergency occur.

It also has alleviated concerns over the cell phone policy, which requires students to keep their cell phones in their lockers.

The district is also looking to expand its STEM program in the future.

Overall, students, faculty and staff are excited to begin the new school year and look forward to all the opportunities it brings.
