Union Local Jets: 2024 High School Football Preview

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was the Union Local Football program. Now entering his 7th season, head coach Bernie Thompson’s win-totals have continued to rise, and catalyst for that comes off the field.

“I think they’re just taking a step in their leadership and that maybe scoring touchdowns and getting in the newspaper isn’t everything, I think everything is showing up and working extremely hard and setting a good example.”

“I know when I was a freshman & sophomore a lot of our juniors and seniors or upperclassmen, they didn’t really talk to sophomores or freshmen at all, we had to do it all ourselves, and I think over the years the seniors especially and the juniors, they’ve really taken a liking to the freshmen, we haven’t been all in seperate groups we’ve been in one big group lifting out here.”

When it comes to the season itself, the Jets went 6-5 last year including a loss in the opening round of the playoffs.

Quarterback Isaiah Tomolonis went down mid-season, with Colby Carpenter filling in his place, now in 2024, Union local will feature both options in their offense. The one option you won’t see on fridays is the arm of their scout-team quarterback.

While Coach locks down 7-on-7, his players will focus on the hitting… In their backfield is Brady Purzinowski and Payton Cosby, with guys like Dre Saunders and Billy Schumaker split outwide.
In the trenches: The Jets return Danny Goodson, Mason Porter & Nick Grobe, with Logan Gross at Tight End.

The arguable best line in the state will make their case for it on the road August 23rd
