WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOWK) — The Greenbrier Hotel will not be sold at auction after an agreement was reached between the family of U.S. Senate candidate and Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) and Beltway Capital, according to a statement from the Justice Companies.

The statement said Gov. Justice will give a specific amount of money to Beltway Capital by Oct. 24. They said the governor already has this funding. The governor said during a Thursday press briefing that he could not disclose how much this was due to confidentiality.

“Upon full performance, all issues concerning The Greenbrier and Glade Springs are concluded,” the press release said.

The Greenbrier Hotel auction was originally scheduled for Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Greenbrier County Courthouse, according to a notice of trustee’s sale.

At the time in a statement from the Justice Companies, they called this, “Another political stunt by the Democrat machine.”

The statement went on to say, “Governor Jim Justice has had a long standing personal banking relationship with JPMorgan Chase dating back decades. As part of that relationship the Governor had pledged a second lien position in the Greenbrier Resort behind Carter Bank & Trust to obtain better banking terms from JPMorgan Chase. Over the past several years the Governor has paid down his debt to JPMorgan substantially.”

That loan was sold, according to a spokesperson, to Beltway Capital and immediately declared in default. The spokesperson called the move deceitful and a political stunt.

According to The Greenbrier’s website, Gov. Justice bought the resort in 2009 from CSX Corporation.
