WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — You can feel it in the air, football season is here, so it’s time to get ready for tailgating.

Chris Kefauver, program chair for Culinary Arts and Hospitality at WVNCC, takes us to the kitchen to show us a few simple recipes that are sure to be a touchdown at your next tailgate.

“So, these are our meatballs that we made from scratch, in the middle we have what I call a Bloody Mary Gazpacho, up front is our beef on Weck which is very simple, it is a roast beef sandwich. Then we have two different dips, we have our classic buffalo chicken dip, and then we also have our beer cheese.”

Kefauver says whether you have a grill, crockpot, or microwave, you’ll be able to make these easy recipes just in time for kick-off.

“Make sure you’ve got your cream cheese, cheese, your hot sauce of your choice, melt those altogether, a little salt and pepper, until you get the texture you want.”

“Then we have our beer cheese, so this is basically just your favorite beer, I prefer a laager it gives a much darker flavor, add shredded cheese and add it to a roux – which is a mix of flour and butter and then you cook it down.”

Kefauver says no matter which dish you choose, food is all about bringing people together.

“Food brings up strong memories and it brings people together. I can’t explain it, I just know it works.”

Chef Kefauver reminds folks at home to prep meals beforehand if you’re cooking at the game. Also keep hot things hot and cold things cold to avoid any food sickness.
