WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — The Wheeling Streetscape project is still about a year from completion, but plenty of progress has been made since the start.

Wheeling City Manager Robert Herron says Main Street is completely paved, but some brick bands and signage still need to be installed.

He says the contractor is continuing work on the storm sewers on Main Street between 10th and 9th Street.

Herron says that portion of the project will play a major role in future projects set to take place soon.

A lot of that had to do with, you know, our long-term control plan and trying to separate stormwater from the sanitary sewer, but it also had to do with future development. And because of the storm sewers that are being constructed as part of the streetscape project, those will service the new gateway project that’s going to be constructed at the site of the former Wheeling Inn.”

He says 14th Street is now re-opened, and the contractor is continuing to make progress on Market Street.
