    West Virginia named the least hard-working state in America in new 2024 report

    With only 48% of Americans having used all of their paid time off last year, the personal finance website WalletHub released its report on 2024’s Hardest-Working States in America . West Virginia comes in last, as the least hard-working state in the USA.

    WalletHub compared the 50 states across 10 key indicators to determine where Americans work the hardest. They range from average workweek hours to the share of workers with multiple jobs to the average leisure time spent daily.

    Indicators that West Virginia ranked low include direct work factors, where West Virginia ranked 47th, indirect work factors, where West Virginia ranked 49th, and average leisure time spent per day, where West Virginia ranked 49th.

    The top 5 hardest-working states:

    1. North Dakota
    2. Alaska
    3. Nebraska
    4. Wyoming
    5. South Dakota

    Here are how the states next to West Virginia rank with #1 being the hardest working state.

    • Ohio: 42
    • Pennslyvania: 34
    • Maryland: 6
    • Virginia: 11
    • Kentucky: 37
