WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Full-time employees in Ohio County will be seeing more money on their paychecks after changes were made to the county’s health insurance benefits program.

Ohio County Administrator Randy Russell says at the beginning of the fiscal year the commission was hit hard with a significant increase in the health insurance benefits for employees.

After working some numbers on their budget, the county commissioners decided to give all full-time county employees an $800 salary increase. The salary increase is mainly due to some of the employees seeing their benefit rates go up.

”Some of the employees were hit with an increase in monthly charges to the insurance. I think for family plan our employee share went from $35 a pay to $75 a pay, which amounts to about $770. So we were going to give that back to the employees.”

Russell says they are also working on a compensation survey with other businesses in the Ohio Valley to ensure the county employees are being compensated fairly.
